ASURNZ provides Building Consultancy and Claims Resolution services tailored to meet the needs of the Australian and New Zealand insurance sectors. Our team of respected industry professionals are well-versed in providing support and expertise to a wide range of building related projects encompassing residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Stephen provides various consultancy and expert witness services for the construction sector in Australia and New Zealand.
With nearly 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, over time he has developed expert technical knowledge of building and construction practices with an emphasis on compliance and regulatory matters. He has held senior and national roles in major companies in the industry, including at Carters, CHH Woodproducts, Mainzeal Property & Construction and CSR Building Products. He has also provided authorship to several NZ and Australian Standards including: NZS 3604 Timber-framed buildings; NZS 3602; NZS 3640; AS 5146; and AS 2753. Stephen is a Director of the NZ Building Industry Federation, has served on the Building Research Advisory Council for BRANZ, and is a past Chair of the NZ Frame and Truss Manufacturers Association.
Stephen is the Principal Consultant for ASURNZ and leads the team operations in Australia and New Zealand.
Peter has extensive construction and regulatory industry experience, initially a carpenter in the New Zealand Army (Royal New Zealand Engineers) and has worked in local and central government.
Peter has considerable central government experience having undertaken policy and regulatory reviews for the Building Industry Authority, Department of Building and Housing, and the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE). He was also the General Manager of Consenting and Compliance at Christchurch City Council in response to the Canterbury earthquakes, then returned to Wellington as a Director for MBIE. He also consulted to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in response to the Kaikoura earthquake.
An avid champion of education, Peter spent almost 6 years developing and lecturing on NZQA approved building surveying qualifications including at certificate, diploma and degree level. Peter also provides expert witness services to law firms around New Zealand and is currently the Vice President of the Building Officials Institute of New Zealand (BOINZ).
Colin Rundle is a carpenter by trade with over 20 years’ experience and has operated his own construction businesses for many years. He has held a variety of positions within the construction industry including Project Manager for Watts and Hughes Construction, Kalmar Construction and Summerset Retirement Villages.
He has provided private consultancy services in the areas of quantity surveying and scope assessment within the insurance sector, as well as providing construction programming and health and safety advice. With his extensive experience and knowledge in carpentry, compliance and insurance, Colin provides expert advice and recommendations to accommodate project needs.
Mario is a highly experienced carpenter with over 40 years in the trade, many of which he has spent working as a sole trader. As a Licensed Building Practitioner in both Carpentry and Site 2, Mario has delivered a wide range of residential projects — from group housing developments to high-end architectural new builds and complex alterations.
Following the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010/11, Mario spent 13 years contracting to the Earthquake Commission, initially as an Estimator and later as a Technical Specialist. In these roles he was instrumental in the assessment and repair of hundreds of homes, working closely with engineers and contractors to ensure accurate and effective repair strategies.
Mario has also focused on providing pre-purchase and pre-sale property reports. He holds a Certificate in Forensic Building Surveying through the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors, further strengthening his expertise in building diagnostics and reporting.
Angela has worked within her family’s building and construction business for more than 30 years, dealing with all aspects of administration management. Their company completed residential new builds for clients, built and sold spec homes, completed residential renovations, provided a pre-purchase house inspection service, completed commercial interior fitouts as well as commercial building maintenance. They were a preferred builder engaged by the Earthquake Commission to repair homes damaged by the Christchurch earthquakes for a number of years. Angela’s role as Administration Manager sees her utilising her deep understanding of the unique challenges and intricacies within the building industry to ensure a professional, efficient, and timely result for clients.
